stone yard devotional

by Charlotte Wood

Quietly wonderful, this book has the same kind of magic as those by Elizabeth Strout – which in my mind is a HUGE complement. Framed as a journal, or “notes to self”, it is the tale of a middle-aged woman who chooses to “disappear” into a nunnery. Even as her world suddenly shrinks, the nuns assert themselves, and everyday moments swell to the size of world events, brimming with worry, rebellion, conflict, and bursts of laughter. Reading it brought me into the moment of my own life. A great teaching.
